What happens if I fail to renew my domain on time?
- .zw and other local domains will be immediately suspended if renewal is not done on time, and deleted after 30 days at the registry.
- International domains will be suspended if renewal is not done on time, however these domains also go into a state known as “Grace Period” after expiry. This is a 29-day non guaranteed period in which the domain can be renewed for the standard renewal cost. After the Grace Period has ended, a domain may enter “Redemption Period” 30 days after the domain initially expired, OR a day or two after Grace Period ends (depending on the domain extension). Once a domain enters Redemption Period, there is no guarantee for recovery - and if it is recoverable - there is a redemption fee at a higher cost set by the registry. A domain can stay in the Redemption period for 3 months and from there, and if it is not redeemed it may leave redemption and be sold off at auction by the registry.
