How do you handle backups and disaster recovery?
SME
All our shared hosting cPanel packages include options for manual backups using the backup wizard or system-automated backups using Jetbackup5.
Manual backups
The customer can go to the backup wizard and back up the files , you can download the backup or keep them on your cpanel for restoration. These are the files you can backup
- The home directory.
- Databases.
- Email forwarder configurations.
- Email filter configurations
Keeping your backups on the server will affect your overall disk space usage quota.
The backup wizard offers a restore feature that allows you to restore the backups.
Automatic backups
Automated backups are full backups scheduled daily, weekly, and monthly to ensure data retention. Daily backups occur at the end of each day, retaining a daily backup everyday. Weekly backups run every Saturday, keeping 1 backup for a week before replacement. Monthly backups are taken on the 1st of each month, retaining 2 backups for up to 2 months. The following are included in the automatic backup:
- cPanel Configurations
- Home directory Files
- Databases
- Database Users
- Email Accounts
- FTP Accounts
- Cron Jobs
- DNS Zone
- SSL Certificates
To restore the automated backup, the customer can contact the Webdev Technical support team to assist with restoring their available backup.
VPS Hosting with backup option chosen
VPS Hosting offers scheduled backups as an additional service option. These backups include weekly snapshots of the VPS, which are stored on separate secure infrastructure and ensure backups for system files and user data. The service takes a full backup once a week and the retention policy is 4 weekly backups. Daily snapshots, File & DB replication are done for Premium and Enterprise VPS Hosting packages when the backup service is chosen.
Managed VPS hosting also provides disaster recovery support, meaning Webdev assists the customer with server & data restoration if an incident occurs. Options are to rollover to a previous state/snapshot, or the customer may order an additional server to operate as a second VPS clone, which can be used as a secondary server for data recovery.
VPS’s with no backup option chosen
With VPS with no backup service, the customer is solely responsible for implementing their own backup and disaster recovery strategy.
